Where you can stay
South Hams permits daytime and overnight parking for self-contained motorhomes at:
- Longmarsh, Totnes
- Leonards Road, Ivybridge
- Poundwell Meadow, Modbury
- Park and Ride, Dartmouth
- Cattlemarket, Kingsbridge
None of these have height barriers. Overnight sleeping or camping is not permitted in any other South Hams off-street car park, at any time.
Cost and time limits
Overnight costs £15 per night, covering any period between 6pm and 9am. If you're there in the day too, the normal daytime tariff applies – and while daytime charges are running you need one ticket per bay, so a van over two bays needs two pay and display tickets, both displayed in the windscreen.
You can stay a maximum of two consecutive nights, and you can't return within 48 hours.
Parking only – no "camping behaviour"
The council is clear that the car park is provided as parking only. Not allowed:
- chairs, tables, other furniture or awnings outside
- discharging waste or foul water
- open fires, BBQs or open cooking
- generators
- caravans, trailers or any vehicle that isn't self-contained
- causing an obstruction, anti-social behaviour or excessive noise
Fire safety
Keep 6 metres between vehicles, with no vehicle parked in between. If there's a fire, evacuate the motorhome, alert people in nearby vehicles and call 999 or 112.
The code of conduct
Leave no trace, take rubbish home to recycle, pick up after your dog, don't overcrowd a site, pay all charges, keep noise down – and, as the council puts it, actively support the local economy.
