At a glance
- Dog-friendly venues listed
- 3 (1 hotel, 2 inns/pubs)
- Swan at Hay pet fee
- £15.00 per stay for pets in the room
Not clear from the source
- The Swan's terms don't give a maximum number of dogs. Some third-party sites quote different terms (per night, max two), which we haven't used.
- The Old Black Lion's rooms page says nothing about pets, so we can't confirm whether dogs can stay overnight.
- Kilverts only says 'Dog Friendly relaxed service' and gives no detail on areas or rooms.
- We haven't checked Powys County Council's dog-control rules for Hay for this page.
The short version
Hay is optional territory for a Wye Valley dog trip, but it's worth a detour. The pattern here is: bar or side room yes, main restaurant no. Only one venue states a room fee on its own site.
The Swan at Hay (hotel)
Some room types are "located in our charming Coach House which are also dog-friendly (as is the majority of the public areas)". The terms say: "There is a charge of £ 15.00 per stay for pets in the room." Source: Stay · Source: terms
The Old Black Lion (inn)
"Dogs are not allowed in the main Restaurant, but are welcome in The Lions Den or in our marquee". The inn also says "Well behaved dogs are welcome in the marquee and on our patio area". The official site doesn't say anything about dogs in bedrooms. Source: Bar & Restaurant
Kilverts (pub) – no detail
The homepage just says "Dog Friendly relaxed service". Source: Kilverts
Wader's tip
When booking a table at the Old Black Lion, ask for The Lions Den or the marquee rather than "the restaurant". Otherwise your dog may not be allowed in.
