Not clear from the source

  • The Beaufort doesn't state a dog fee or a maximum number of dogs on its dog-friendly page. Its FAQs mention 'designated areas' without listing them.
  • Coach & Horses only says 'We are a dog friendly pub!' and gives no detail on areas or rules.

The short version

The Beaufort is the one place in Chepstow that puts its dog welcome in writing for bedrooms as well as public areas. Two pubs say they're dog friendly. The castle lets dogs onto its ground floors on a short lead. Before you head for a town park, check the council list. Most of Chepstow's play areas, and several sports pitches and school grounds, are dog exclusion areas.

The Beaufort Hotel (hotel)

"Dogs are welcome throughout the hotel" and "Dogs are welcome in our bedrooms!" The hotel says there are "water bowls in each room and throughout the hotel". Its FAQs refer to "designated areas" for dogs. It doesn't publish a fee or a maximum number of dogs, so ask when you book. Source: dog-friendly page · Source: FAQs

Council rules

Monmouthshire's dog PSPO applies here: clear up after your dog, carry poo bags, and put your dog on a lead if told to. In Chepstow, the council's annex lists:

  • Exclusion areas: around 20 play areas (including Bulwark Park, Castle Dell, St Lawrence Park and Meadow Walk), the Chepstow Town AFC and Chepstow Rugby Club pitches, Thornwell football pitch, Hardwick Recreation Ground, Chepstow School and Leisure Centre, and the primary schools
  • Lead only: Chepstow Cemetery at Bulwark, Piggy's Hill Skate Park and the leisure-centre car park

Wader's tip

Chepstow is the southern end of the Wye Valley Walk. If you're finishing the walk here with a muddy dog, the Two Rivers' bar and beer garden is a stated dog-friendly stop.
