Not clear from the source
- The page says online booking is limited to one bike per customer; it isn't explicit about how a group books several bikes on one train, beyond using live chat or a travel centre.
The one rule that matters
On LNER, bikes are free, but a reservation is compulsory on every service. Turn up without one and you may be refused boarding. That's stricter than some operators, where unreserved bikes can sometimes squeeze on.
How to reserve
- When you buy your ticket online – limited to one bike per customer.
- Later, by adding it in My Account.
- Through live chat or at a travel centre.
Will my bike fit?
LNER sets limits:
- weight up to 25 kg
- length up to 200 cm
- tyre width up to 8.5 cm
- handlebar width up to 85 cm
If you ride a cargo bike, tandem or fat-tyre bike, measure it against these before you book.
E-bikes and folding bikes
- E-bikes under 25 kg are fine with a reservation, but you can't charge them on board.
- Brompton-style folding bikes don't need a reservation as long as they're folded.
- E-scooters, mopeds, electric unicycles and hoverboards aren't allowed.
On the day
- Arrive at least 10 minutes early.
- Dismount before you go into the station.
- Passenger Assist can't be booked for bikes.
- You can bring a lock, but don't lock the bike to the train.
- If there's a replacement coach, non-folding bikes can't travel on it.
Parking at the station
LNER says every LNER station except Sunderland has bike storage.
